Let's Make a Musical!

Theater education is really something special. There’s truly nothing else like watching kids learn how to express feeling through their words and bodies, gain confidence on stage, and be creative together.

Over the past two months, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Tim Jones and about 30 of Frankfort Elementary’s 3rd-5th grade students. We met weekly after school at The Garden Theater and over the course of just eight sessions together we created our very own original musical!

Together we played games, crafted stories, and wrote songs. We talked about characters and conflicts. And, we created something really special — a play that I’m so excited to share with our community.

I encourage you to join us this Thursday, June 4th at 6:00pm sharp at The Garden Theater for the free performance of The Trouble with the Thompson Triplets, an original musical by Frankfort Elementary students, with help from Teacher Leo & Teacher Tim. And…special guest Andrew Dost will be joining us on guitar, trumpet, and synthesizer!

These students have been working hard and I’m always wowed by the ideas they come up with — and how willing they are to share them! It’s truly been my honor to create a space where everyone’s ideas are welcome, and where every one of these 30 students has left their own impact on our story.

This special project was made possible through the Jewell Arts Program, a private art foundation dedicated to promoting all of the arts for students, & by the J. Bernard Foundation.
